Run, walk or cycle for good
Getting some fresh air has never been more socially beneficial as all roads lead to IJG Trails in Windhoek this Saturday, where the Step Out of Poverty Through Education, Encouragement and Support organisation will host its first-ever charity run.
The Step Out of Poverty Through Education, Encouragement and Support (SPES) charity, which has made tremendous impacts on various facets of Namibian society over its 14 years in existence, will be hosting a charity run this Saturday, 11 June.
The event is aimed at raising funds to enable the organisation to widen its reach and continue its impactful work alongside international and local partners.
“This year, we decided to host a SPES charity run event and create an opportunity for people from different walks of life to enjoy a day out in nature as colleagues, as a family or as avid sportsmen and -women. In that way, they are supporting us and simply doing something healthy and fun,” SPES director, Esmé Coetzee, said.
“Through this event, we aim to raise funds for SPES charity as well as build new networks and relationships to partner with us in the future in making a lasting and sustainable impact in the lives of the 1 000 children and 60 teachers we are involved with. With the funds generated and networks established, we aim to continue to expand our support in the future.”
About SPES
This charity operates under a board of directors, which includes four principal leaders from SPES schools. They also have a team working on the ground consisting of three permanent staff members and five part-time staff members.
“As we highly value our teachers’ input and rely on their help to a great extent, we have nominated leaders from our teachers to help our team when working with individual schools,” Coetzee elaborated.
Tackling the trails
“We would like to invite one and all to our yearly networking and fundraising event, as we’ve really applied ourselves to think of creative ways to generate funds as well as network with the broader community to provide support and help us expand our impact,” she said.
The charity run will take place at IJG Trials in Windhoek from 08:00. Entry fees are N$60 for adults and N$40 for children between the ages of 10 and 18. Participants can enjoy a five- or 10-kilometre walk or run, or choose between 4 km, 15 km and 30 km mountain biking challenges. For more information, email [email protected] or call 081 306 6311.
