FNB Namibia donates N$130 000 towards Dagbreek

FNB Namibia through the FirstRand Namibia Foundation supported the Dagbreek Special Needs School with a donation of N$130 000 towards the establishment of an Urban Farm and Skills Training Facility greenhouse.The initiative is designed to empower intellectually impaired learners by equipping them with essential horticultural and vocational skills that foster confidence, independence, and self-sufficiency.Revonia Job, group corporate social investment manager for FirstRand Namibia emphasised the importance of private sector involvement in initiatives that foster inclusive development. “Access to quality education and skills training remains a challenge in Namibia. While we support our government’s efforts to increase access, we also recognise the gap that exists for children who are intellectually impaired. Which is why the private sector needs to intervene and help level the playing field.”According to Job, education and skills development are one of the key pillars of the FirstRand Namibia Foundation and remain at the heart of our commitment to building a globallycompetitive Namibia. "We believe that equal access to education and training creates opportunities that can transform lives. By supporting institutions like Dagbreek, weare investing in a future where every Namibian child, regardless of ability can thrive, contribute, and have equal access to opportunities."Job further highlighted Namibia’s growing need for horticultural proficiency. “As a nation, it is important that we diversify our children’s skills beyond traditional education. We must ensure that they gain a holistic curriculum and are equipped with practical tools that will empower them and their communities in the future,” Job said. The primary objective of the Urban Farm and Skills Training Facility is to empower intellectually impaired learners with the skills, confidence and independence needed to lead fulfilling lives. Through this facility, learners are provided with a well-rounded education and given the opportunity to develop their skills holistically. More than just a training space, it is a stepping stone towards independence for these learners, offering them a sense of purpose and inclusion in their communities.
