Agra expands national footprint

Namibian agricultural and retail company Agra is expanding its national footprint with new and upgraded branches in Stampriet, Swakopmund and Keetmanshoop, as part of a broader investment in the country’s agricultural, retail and service sectors.The expansion has created 117 new jobs across Agra’s growing network, with the company saying the new employment opportunities will contribute to stronger households, increased local spending and greater economic activity in the communities where it operates.Agra recently opened a new retail branch in Stampriet, providing farmers, residents and schools with improved access to agricultural products and services.The company has also expanded its presence in Swakopmund with the opening of Agra Safari Den, which offers camping, fishing and outdoor products aimed at recreational users, travellers, families and outdoor enthusiasts.The Swakopmund outlet also incorporates two store-in-store concepts. House of Pets caters for pet owners and animal lovers, while SureTech provides security solutions, including CCTV equipment for homes, businesses and corporate systems.In Keetmanshoop, Agra has expanded its existing operations with the addition of Agra Liquor, providing customers with access to a wider range of products under the Agra brand.Creating opportunitiesThe company said the expansion was about more than increasing its physical presence and was intended to create opportunities and support communities.As part of the recent developments, Agra has invested in initiatives focused on education, animal welfare and agricultural knowledge-sharing.In Stampriet, the company provided a bursary valued at N$28 000, enabling the recipient to study online through the Agra Agricultural Academy, specialising in either animal production or plant production.Agra said the investment would support skills development and contribute to the future of Namibia’s agricultural sector.In Swakopmund, the company provided N$10 000 in sponsorship to local animal welfare organisations, including the SPCA, also known as the Tierschutzverein, and Have a Heart. The funding will assist with animal healthcare and spaying and neutering initiatives.Agra ProVision also hosted an open Farmers’ Day at the Swakopmund Municipality Community Hall, where training focused on crop production for both large- and small-scale producers.The company said the initiative was aimed at sharing practical knowledge and promoting sustainable agricultural development.‘Lasting development’“These contributions reflect Agra’s belief that lasting development is strengthened through education, knowledge-sharing, community partnerships and practical support,” the company said.The expansion is set to continue, with further developments planned for Oshakati, Walvis Bay and Windhoek.The revamped Windhoek branch at Auas Valley Shopping Mall is expected to represent a significant investment and will include a 24-hour fuel station, a GoAgra Convenience Store and Agra Liquor.Agra said its expansion reflects its commitment to investing in Namibia and its people while remaining rooted in agriculture.“By expanding its national footprint, creating jobs, supporting communities and introducing new products and services, Agra is helping to build a stronger future while remaining true to its agricultural roots,” the company said.
