TotalEnergies executive to outline Angola offshore strategy at AOG 2026

Martin Deffontaines, Angola country manager for TotalEnergies, has been confirmed as a speaker at the Angola Oil &amp; Gas Conference and Exhibition 2026, scheduled to take place from 9 to 10 September, with a pre-conference programme on 8 September in Luanda.His participation comes as TotalEnergies expands its offshore portfolio in Angola and is expected to offer insight into the company’s strategy for the country’s next phase of offshore growth.TotalEnergies is pursuing a broad exploration and production strategy in Angola, combining brownfield optimisation with frontier exploration and large-scale deepwater developments. As one of the country’s largest oil producers, the company says its recent investments reflect a long-term commitment to the Angolan market and support national efforts to maintain crude production above one million barrels per day.A key part of the strategy focuses on extending the value of existing producing assets. Earlier this month, TotalEnergies signed a principles agreement with the National Oil, Gas &amp; Biofuels Agency to extend the licence for Block 32 until 2043.The agreement outlines terms for the continued development of the block and includes the potential application of Angola’s Incremental Production Decree to support additional output. Block 32 is one of Angola’s largest producing assets and includes six fields, among them the Kaombo project.Beyond existing operations, TotalEnergies is also expanding into new exploration areas. In March 2026, the company signed an agreement with the National Oil, Gas &amp; Biofuels Agency and ExxonMobil for the allocation of four offshore blocks in the Benguela and Namibe basins - Blocks 40, 41, 42 and 58.The agreement paves the way for formal contracts covering the blocks. It follows a separate agreement signed in 2025 between TotalEnergies, ExxonMobil and the agency to study and evaluate free areas in Blocks 17/06 and 32/21, two of Angola’s longest-producing offshore assets.The studies are intended to identify new exploration prospects and support future production growth.At the centre of TotalEnergies’ development portfolio is the Kaminho deepwater project, the first large-scale deepwater development in the Kwanza Basin.The project, valued at around $6bn, is expected to produce about 70,000 barrels per day through a floating production, storage and offloading vessel equipped with lower-emission technologies.A final investment decision was reached in 2024, with production expected to begin in 2028.Kaminho follows the launch of two offshore projects in 2025 - Begonia and CLOV Phase 3 - which together added around 60,000 barrels per day to the company’s Angolan production portfolio.Deffontaines’ appearance at AOG 2026 comes as Angola continues to position offshore exploration and production as a key pillar of its energy strategy.As one of the country’s largest international investors, TotalEnergies remains central to discussions around production sustainability, exploration policy and offshore project economics.The company said Deffontaines’ participation at the conference reflects growing international confidence in Angola’s deepwater energy sector. - Distributed by APO Group on behalf of Energy Capital &amp; Power.
