Mozambique gears up for 10th Gas & Energy Summit

Critical player in Africa’s energy and logistics sectors
Africa is rapidly emerging as a global hotspot for liquefied natural gas (LNG), with Mozambique at the forefront of this energy transformation. Analysts now forecast the southern African nation could rank among the top five global LNG exporters, driven by multi-billion-dollar gas projects and strategic regional infrastructure developments. As the continent balances the twin imperatives of meeting soaring energy demand and pursuing decarbonisation, Mozambique’s evolving energy and logistics landscape offers a unique lens on Africa’s future.

From 22 to 24 September 2025, Maputo will host the 10th Mozambique Gas & Energy Summit & Exhibition (MGES 2025) at the Joaquim Chissano International Convention Centre. The summit promises to convene more than 3 700 participants from over 45 countries, including government ministers, international financiers, global energy companies, and sector specialists. Key discussions will centre on LNG offtake agreements, energy transition technologies, regional integration, and workforce development, underscoring the country’s growing prominence as an African energy powerhouse and logistics gateway.

A decade of transformation

Over the past ten years, the Mozambique Gas & Energy Summit has evolved into a pivotal forum shaping the nation’s energy sector. The summit has catalysed megaprojects, fostered public-private cooperation, and facilitated knowledge transfer, skills development, and local content initiatives across Mozambique’s energy ecosystem.

This year, the summit’s organisers, dmg events in partnership with Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH), are introducing a series of new initiatives to expand their reach. Among them is the Africa Ports, Logistics & Infrastructure Summit, scheduled for 23 September, which aims to engage over 300 delegates from 25 countries in discussions on industrialisation, connectivity, and strategic corridor developments across southern and eastern Africa.

Additionally, the Generation Ready youth employability programme, now in its fourth year, will integrate into the summit’s opening day. The initiative connects pre- and post-education candidates with industry leaders, policymakers, and employers, aiming to cultivate the next generation of talent for Mozambique’s energy and infrastructure sectors. By bridging the skills gap, the programme ensures that Mozambique’s growth in LNG production and logistics is underpinned by a capable and ready workforce.

Gas, LNG and the

energy transition

Mozambique holds some of Africa’s fastest-growing LNG reserves, with the potential to reshape regional and global energy markets. The country’s energy ambitions are supported by large-scale projects, including the Rovuma LNG development and other associated ventures that collectively represent billions of dollars in investment.

MGES 2025 will spotlight key issues confronting the sector. Delegates will discuss LNG offtake agreements, project tenders and multi-lateral partnerships, while exploring how advanced technologies can support decarbonisation and sustainable socio-economic growth.

With over 1 000 high-level delegates and 275 exhibiting companies spanning 35 countries, the summit represents an unparalleled platform for decision-makers seeking to navigate the continent’s energy transition while unlocking investment opportunities.

Regional integrationMozambique’s growing energy sector is closely tied to strategic infrastructure projects that enhance its role as a continental logistics hub. Planned and ongoing initiatives include the US$6.5 billion Ponta Techobanine Port, the US$785 million Maputo-Katembe Bridge, and multiple corridor projects linking key ports and cities, including Dar es Salaam, Nacala, Durban, Walvis Bay, and the Lobito Corridor. These developments facilitate the export of LNG and other resources while integrating Mozambique into broader African supply chains.

The Africa Ports, Logistics & Infrastructure Summit, convening alongside MGES 2025, will provide a dedicated forum to discuss industrialisation, regional connectivity, and trade facilitation. The event reflects the government’s commitment to leveraging infrastructure as a catalyst for economic growth and regional integration.

Investment and partnerships

The 2025 summit is expected to attract a diverse mix of participants, including international oil and gas companies, financial institutions, national and regional policymakers, and technology providers.

High-level representation is anticipated from Mozambique’s ministry of mineral resources and energy (MIREME), ENH, the National Petroleum Institute (INP) and key government agencies. These actors will utilise the summit to advance partnerships, explore technology transfers, and attract further investment into the country’s energy and infrastructure sectors.

As Mozambique positions itself at the nexus of Africa’s energy and logistics ambitions, the summit underscores the dual imperatives of sustainable development and regional integration. The event will highlight Mozambique’s capacity to supply pan-African and global energy markets while also fostering job creation, skills development, and technology adoption.

MGES 2025 serves as the only dedicated platform in Mozambique to bring together stakeholders across gas, LNG, energy, ports, logistics, and youth workforce development. By doing so, it provides a comprehensive perspective on the nation’s economic trajectory and its emerging role as a continental energy and infrastructure hub.

With Mozambique’s LNG reserves projected to expand further, and its infrastructure corridors enhancing trade and connectivity, the country is well placed to meet future energy demand while contributing to Africa’s broader economic development agenda. The summit offers a unique opportunity to showcase these achievements, foster investment, and align stakeholders around a shared vision for growth and sustainability.
