Vasbyt action entertains the coast

The Walvis Bay Motorsport Park came alive last weekend as the annual Weskus 4x4 Vasbyt, hosted by Vasbyt Namibia, delivered high-octane action for motorsport enthusiasts. A total of 15 vehicles took part in the event, navigating a challenging course with ten obstacles. Drivers tackled a mix of holes, rocks, tyre sections, and the final mud pit – a crowd favourite. Nico Oberholzer Junior, chairperson of Vasbyt Namibia, shared: “For us, the most important thing is that the vehicles don’t break, and everyone has fun. It’s great to see drivers and teams pushing themselves through the obstacles – it’s a real test of skill and teamwork. “We have everything from tricky holes and soft patches to rocks and tyre sections. The final mud pit is always a crowd favourite – it’s the ultimate challenge!” Oberholzer added that post-Covid, they have been actively revitalising the sport, with a growing presence on social media to expand participation nationwide. “We want people to know what we do, and we want the sport to grow,” he said. “We’ve already held events in Walvis Bay, Otjiwarongo, Mariental, and Windhoek, and we’re planning to take it to even more regions. “The more participants we have, the better it is for everyone. We welcome everyone to come, drive with us, and help grow the sport. Whether you’re experienced or a newcomer, there’s a place for you here.” Spectators were treated to thrilling action as drivers tackled the obstacles, while organisers emphasised the importance of fun, safety, and teamwork. “It’s not just about speed; it’s about strategy, skill, and enjoying the experience,” said Oberholzer.
