Monique Christiaan is the newly appointed credit and operations manager at Old Mutual Finance Namibia (OMFIN). Her role includes overseeing the credit and operation teams who manage credit granting, credit risk analysis as well as supporting the sales and collections teams with other operational tasks.
On a day-to-day basis, Christiaan is involved in various sessions and meetings to keep abreast of what is happening within her teams and Old Mutual. “I further focus on drafting reports as well as reviewing and approving credit related requests,” she says.
Exciting new role
One would think that taking up a new position is a daunting or frightening task, but Christiaan was able to solidify her foundation prior to her appointment. She served as an operations manager within Old Mutual for a different business unit, which makes her experience within the lending business exciting. “Exciting because, although I have previously been involved in roles overseeing credit granted to clients, this role offers me the opportunity to gain in depth experience within a credit environment,” she adds.
Besides having an exciting scope of work, Christiaan says the most challenging aspect of her role currently is time management in respect of how she manages her day between all the meetings and forums, emails as well as reports and deliverables. She is able to keep afloat by staying motivated and focused and ensuring to have the right tools in place, both automated and manual to help her manage time better. Christiaan is passionate about planning, strategizing and seeing a plan becoming reality. In future, she hopes to be a part of Old Mutual in a role where she can enhance her strategising skillset.
About Christiaan
Christiaan was born in Windhoek, where she has lived her entire life. She finished her school career at Jan Möhr Secondary School in 2006 and went on to pursue a Bachelor of Accounting Sciences at the University of South Africa. On a part-time basis, she completed her audit articles with KPMG Namibia. Thereafter, she spent seven months with KPMG as a senior accountant and at the end of 2012, moved on to Bidvest Namibia where she served as financial manager until January 2017. In 2017, she returned to KPMG as the finance, payroll and risk manager and thereafter moved to Old Mutual late in 2019.
