Who paved the way?
ALFEUS LUNGAMENI (SUCCESS) HAMUNDJA WRITES:
Names have meaning.
Ndemupelila Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah (NNN) does not need an introduction. She is a seasoned lawmaker and diplomat, she has long been an advocate for inclusivity, gender equality, youth empowerment and sustainable energy.
The name “Ndemupelila” translates loosely to “the one who showed the way” in my vernacular language, Oshikwanyama.
HOW DID SHE PAVED THE WAY?
She used a sharp political knife and dismantle the “harambee legacy”.
It was an unpopular decision, unpopular to individual advancement but beneficial to the long-term advancement of the collective and the country. Today her presidency has a readable and recognizable structure and visible outlook.
She extensively down-size government to narrow its focus on key areas of services and functionalities. Her leadership brings fresh hope, not just revitalization of Namibia’s economic and social landscape.
In her first 100 days she really did well but for me as a student of history I expected more from her and her administration because they might not get a second chance depending on what they are doing.
By the way, with due respect I would like to know from the ruling party if the “harambee prosperity plan” was just for our late president Hage Geingob? Because I do not hear anyone in the ruling party structure talking about it anymore, even ambassador Alfredo Hengari who was championing it.
Was the plan forced on all of them? This is the reason why I used to say we need a Namibian think tank. If we could have a think tank we would not have some of those prosperity plans which failed all of us.
INHERITED A NAMIBIA WITH MANY CHALLENGES
On 21 March 2025 NNN inherited a Namibia with many challenges, including higher unemployment rate, bigger widening gap of the haves and have nots and GBV. Higher suicide rate, corruption, failing education system and failing healthcare system, and not to forget the failing state-owned enterprises.
Fellow voters, fellow Namibians, we need to watch out if the current administration will live up to what they promised. We need to support them but if they fail to translate those bold pledges such as free tertiary education, universal health coverage and job creation into tangible reforms, then we must punish them at the ballot box come 2030. In fact they are only left with four good years to make tangible reforms.
Fellow Namibians irrespective of colour, race or ethnicity, let us put our efforts together and support our lovely president who paved the way for many young people in Namibia. Let us support our head of state in her vision to usher Namibia into a new era.
Last but not least, I wish my president, the only person I can call my president, a prosperous 2026. All the best to her, her family, her support system and her nation, Namibia.
May the new year 2026 bring her love, peace and wisdom. May it be a year of foundational growth, spiritual elevation and intentional rebuilding for her nation, Namibia.
