Private hostels in Gobabis
HEADMAN WALLACE FINNIES WRITES:
The student population in Gobabis consist of about 60% of the Gobabis population of about 65 000 residents. Most of these students are forced to stay in illegal, unhealthy accommodation facilities e.g., in the squatter camp houses where they are exposed to severe dangers like illnesses, murder, kidnapping etc.
Hence, the involvement of the private sector to support the construction of hostel facilities in Gobabis cannot be over-emphasized. We know that the resources of the government of The Republic of Namibia is limited, but the need for hostels is unlimited as our population is continuously growing.
To avoid our youth to be negatively affected by the lack of hostels from the government of The Republic of Namibia, private initiatives to establish much needed hostels cannot be ignored.
Thus, where private individuals and institutions intent to establish hostel facilities in Gobabis must be supported whole heartedly by all public institutions and officials. If not, it means that the government don’t need extra hostel facilities which will be equal to human crimes committed by public officials with our tax money!
The initiative by Mr. Izak de Beer from Gobabis to avail his building to be re-designed from an industrial building to an accommodations/hostel facility cannot be ignored. This building is situated in the industrial area in Gobabis next to the informal settlement in Epako where a lot of students are staying.
On behalf of all residents of Gobabis, myself as headman of the colourds in Gobabis sincerely and proudly thank Mr. Izak de Beer for his contribution towards getting rid of the lack of hostel facilities in Gobabis as a veteran Gobabis resident.
