Paaie Kamp in Gobabis!

Lesersbrief
Wallace Finnies

WALLACE FINNIES WRITES:

“Die Paaie Kamp in Gobabis is a community that has been home to families for more than 30 years.

It was originally established as accommodation for workers of RCC, and over time it became a permanent settlement where generations were born and raised.

For many years, residents have tried to buy the plots they live on, but they have received conflicting information.

The Municipality of Gobabis says the land belongs to the Ministry of Works, while the Ministry of Works refers them back to the municipality. As a result, the ownership of the land remains unclear. Paaie Kamp has also been neglected. The area has no street lights, waste collection is irregular, and it was excluded from the recent prepaid water meter project introduced in other parts of Gobabis by the Mayor. Residents are now concerned by rumors that the Municipality of Gobabis may sell the land to private buyers, which could force families to leave the only home they have known for decades and become squatters with no water and electricity.

If they are required to move, they want to know where they will go and whether alternative serviced land will be provided by Gobabis Municipality. Paaie Kamp is more than just land. It is a Community with a long history, and its residents deserve clarity, security, and the opportunity to remain in the place they call home. They constructed the Trans-Kalahari Highway!

The residents of Paaie Kamp are not asking for special treatment. They are asking for clarity, fairness, and the opportunity to own the land they have occupied and cared for more than 30 years. What plans exist for the future of the Paaie Kamp Community in Gobabis!
