Economic suicide of negative peace
FRITZ HEINRICH DAUSAB WRITES:
The same way the Afrikaners in South Africa, in charge of Apartheid project realized that apartheid is economic suicide for SA, is the same way SWAPO should realize that tribalism, nepotism and corruption in political economy of Namibia is bad for Namibia.
Rejecting this status quo after 32 years of liberation party management, it should be noted that after 32 years of governance, we still have no industrial capability. Education benchmarks were not defended and dropped especially in the fields of physical science and mathematics and miss-match between technical capabilities and university graduates, corruption in government and private sectors are synonymous with SWAPO party; while Anti-Corruption Agency plus die-hard SWAPO members in judiciary/human resource practitioners across the board in government makes it impossible for Namibia to address corruption in all spheres of life.
Our inequality (difference between the rich and poor) never came down after 32 years, but worsened. Thus, we should concur with the fact that reverse racism is rife under SWAPO government, as could be seen under umbrellas of IPC and RA who fights to keep Owambos in charge of Namibia and only concerned about winning political office to continue the stigmatization and exclusion of other races in Namibia from political power and economic resources. Due to break away factions from SWAPO which materialized into the birth of LPM and others such as RDP, we should face facts that such parties will always be undemocratic as they too just chase power, and follow the doctrine of fake democracy with a hardened top-down approach, empowering “yes people” which leads to dictatorship and non-transparency just like SWAPO.
To address the stagnation of the economy, will mean the INCLUSION of all Namibians and not just OPO or friend related appointments in private, public enterprises and government. To bring Namibia into the high economic growth, means the abolishment of the Cambridge education system while focusing on the roll-out of technical school syllabi. Furthermore, combined with state driven industrialization, the roll out of technical schools will bring forth the change from employment seeker to self-employment due to technical skills knowledge, while at the same time having a workforce ready when Ministry of Industrialization can get its act together and import/attract global industrial multinational companies to setup factories in Namibia.
The redressing of tribalized procurement boards all over Namibia fairness doctrine to be practiced when scoring tenders in different regions will be an excellent start.
While employing people in government and realizing that employing clueless friends, family and comrades of OPO into crucial positions will increase economic decline – case in point TransNamib, Namibia Grape Company, SME Bank and Air Namibia just to name a few – that could have been prevented by good oversight and much better management. A few examples of real oversight/corruption by powers to be is the appointment of presidential member of A-team to be player and referee in the green hydrogen scheme of government (as if Namibians can forget the SME Bank saga, where no-one was prosecuted); the non-enforcement of labour laws against Chinese employers, especially in the construction sector where Chinese state-owned companies or Chinese state funded Chinese firms have established companies in Namibia and undercutting on prize due to Namibian government’s inconsistency in enforcing laws such as the prescribed rates of remuneration of Labour Act.
The unequal employment opportunities for other tribes such as Namas, coloured’s, Herero’s, Damaras and whites in all regions of Namibia; the 90% approval of tenders in ||Kharas towards OPO tenderpreneurs, who due to brown envelopes and SWAPO government doctrine, where OPO camaraderie receive most tenders across Namibia and specifically in ||Kharas and Hardap from all institutions; lastly employment opportunities of top posts and low level positions such as cleaners and security 99% goes to OPO and Okavango’s.
The change lies with us and whether we want to encourage tribalism that leads to civil war as in the case of Hutu massacre by Tutsis in Ethiopia.
Just as South Africa realized the fact that only catering to white Afrikaners almost destroyed South African economy, SWAPO government should realize that treating OPO people to be more equal than other Namibian tribes, is making Namibia reaching the point of no return in being able to rescue the economy and makes the “Namibian House” as touted by President Geingob a bad joke.
How can we live peace if many are excluded from employment opportunities? Tender opportunities? Development Bank loan opportunities? Fish quota allocations of many tribes and groups of people? Diamond and oil sectors? SWAPO and other economic players should reset the button towards really ending corruption, by getting rid of Paulus Noa and establish an Anti-corruption watchdog only answerable to parliament and not the Executive arm of government. We should also empower all Namibians equally and stop misusing public properties to assist ruling party to cling to power.
On conclusion, while we have, we only have negative peace in Namibia which are enforced with biased laws towards oppressing the freedoms guaranteed by Namibia Constitution laws such as police approval of marches? Police approval of political rallies? New laws of espionage on Namibian citizens (RICA of sim cards)?
Namibia, as a country only having approximately 2.6 million inhabitants are 50% living from paycheck to paycheck – just think about retail workers, petrol joggies, security guards and pensioners.
I really do not subscribe to ministry of veterans affairs to only cater for war veterans because the people inside Namibia who never left for political persecution were oppressed under Apartheid systems in Namibia. It is high time that the veteran’s ministry, just like ministry of public enterprises with no teeth be disbanded and just made departments under different ministries. Or that ministry of veteran affairs seize to exist and ALL pensions of pensioners be made N$2 500.
