SA saksofoonspeler nou 'n Namib-bewoner

Die vryskut saksofoonspeler en komponis, Gareth Harvey, het onlangs die besluit gemaak om op 'n 2-jaar werkvisa na Namibië te verhuis.

Harvey het vir homself 'n naam in Suid-Afrikaanse- en internasionale musiekkringe gemaak deur optredes by geleenthede soos die Kaapstad Internasionale Filmfees en die Stellenbosch Internasionale Kamermusiekfees waar hy die verhoog met die New York Metropolitaanse Opera Orkes gedeel het.

Harvey het ook al voor bekendes soos wyle emeritus-aartsbiskop Desmond Tutu asook Hollywood-sterre Catherine Zeta-Jones en Hugh Grant opgetree. Hy het ook al skouer geskuur met Namibiese musikant Riaan Smit, toe hulle albei lede van die Crimson House-musiekgroep was.

"Ek het gevoel ek moet myself uitdaag; dit dwing jou om aan te pas. Ek hou daarvan om myself in uitdagende omgewings te plaas. Hierdie is 'n ander gemeenskap en 'n ander omgewing," het hy gesê.

Harvey sal onder Smit se produksiemaatskappy, Tribe One Productions, werk. Hy het voorts gesê hy is gretig om vurige jazz- en klassieke musikante te bemagtig. Hy het bygevoeg dat hy graag genres oorkruis en dus opgewonde is om met musikante uit alle agtergronde en style te werk.
