As of late Windhoek Gymnasium have showed their strength in Protea country and has ensured that they do not disappoint.
Windhoek Gymnasium brought the heat to the netball court recently in the Affies Tournament hosted in Johannesburg, South Africa, recently.
The Affies Prestige Netball Tournament is a tournament that brings together schools from primarily Johannesburg and Pretoria in South Africa to compete against one another.
Four teams from Windhoek Gymnasium ventured to the neighbouring country for the tournament with the support of Airlink and stunned even their most loyal supporters with results that exceeded all expectation.
The Windhoek Gymnasium u/14 team had smooth sailing to the bronze final winning 8 of the 9 games they participated in. Unfortunately, they lost the bronze final to Garsfontein High School with a mere 2 points bringing the score to a standstill at 9 – 11 by the end of the match.
The u/14 netball team, however, did not go unrecognized at the tournament as they took up 4th place of 20 teams at the tournament.
The competition waters were slightly more treacherous for the u/15 netball team who managed to settle in at 15th place with 3 wins of 11 total games.
The Windhoek Gymnasium u/17 netball team had 7 games in their back pocket when they won the bronze against Kempton Park with a score of 18 – 8. They managed to settle in 3rd of 17 participating teams.
The pride and joy of Windhoek Gymnasium netball, the Black Diamonds (u/19 team), won all but one of the 8 games they participated in, but lost the bronze final against Rustenburg 25 – 34. The Black Diamonds however claimed their space in the leaderboard ending 4th of 19 participating teams.
Windhoek Gymnasium also recently saw their first rugby team, the Lions, depart for South Africa to participate in the prestigious Paul Roos tournament.
Paul Roos Gymnasium in Stellenbosch is known for producing more Springbok rugby players than any other school, including rugby heroes Herschel Jantjies, Damian Willemse and Braam Steyn.
The hockey team at Windhoek Gymnasium is no exception as they have faced the legendary Paarl Gymnasium and among a number of other opponents on South African soil.
