Clubs raring to go in NPFL
The 16 clubs in the Namibia Premier Football League (NPFL) are ready for action as they prepare for the second leg of the 2025-2026 season.
The first leg already produced emphatic action and the clubs are hoping to continue with the same rhythm going forward.
Many clubs however will feel the need to improve in the second leg as far as challenging the chasing pack is concerned.
Khomas Nampol FC coach Fortune Eichab hopes his team can bounce back from a surprisingly shaky first leg.
The Police team finished the first leg in the 13th position, with just 13 points after 13 matches they played so far.
The club which finished the previous season in the top three are now hoping to bounce back and finish well away from the threat of relegation.
Eichab is still confident his team can pull up their socks in an attempt to get out of the troubled waters they find themselves in.
“It was not a good season for us so far and we need to improve on the performances we have produced so far.
“We need to work harder on the training ground in order to make sure that we are not going down.
“We finished in better positions the last two years and we have to do the same again,” Eichab said.
Khomas Nampol’s next match will be against out of form Tigers FC at home.
The match fixtures are still subject to changes during the week before the second leg starts.
Tigers are currently holding 15th place – deep in the relegation zone, just one point behind their next opponents Khomas Nampol FC.
Clubs like Life Fighters and Julinho Athletics who are in the relaxation zone have also expressed their intent to perform better going forward.
Okahandja United FC on the other hand are fighting for a place in the top half of the table with their team idling in 11th place. They have so far only won three of their 12 premier league matches, while playing to four draws and losing five matches.
Team owner Congo Hindjou expects and hopes that Okahandja United can rise further away from the drop zone given they are also having on 13 points, the same as Life Fighters FC.
“I must say things are very tight at the bottom as well as at the top of the table this season.
“We are not so far way from the bottom and also from the top, because things can change in one weekend, but we are hoping to get back on track and push forward.
“As a club we have had some time to regroup and do the right things for our survival in the premier league,” Hindjou said.
Okahandja United will begin 2026 with two away fixtures at the coast against Eleven Arrows and Blue Waters this coming weekend.
Front pack
Ahead of some important fixtures at the top end of the table, things are as tight as it gets, with teams battling it out for the title.
Mighty Gunners are leading the pack with 24 points in 13 matches, while Eeshoke Chula Chula are in second place with the same points as the leaders.
Champions African Stars are also just one log point behind the two leaders as they aim to reclaim the first position.
Unam FC are currently placed fourth with 23 points, while KK Palace are in fifth with three points less than the university team.
As things stand, it is yet to be decided which teams will stand out in the second leg, but expectations are on league leaders Mighty Gunners to keep improving.
“The football season still has a long journey to go, but I think some teams have made their intentions clear and it is going to be a tight and proper season.
“One can see that most of the clubs are not far away from each other and that is what makes this season very interesting.
“It will not be one-way traffic for any team here and that is going to keep things interesting until the end,” former national team goalkeeper Maximilian Mbaeva said.
