Bank Windhoek's Walvis Bay branch recently hosted a fun run and walk to raise money for the Yahweh Down Syndrome Foundation, a school accommodating children with this condition and those living with other disabilities.

The community of Walvis Bay wholeheartedly supported the project, with 388 participants of all ages and backgrounds joining in to support this noble cause.

Through the community's collective efforts, a significant amount of money was raised that will ensure that the school can continue to provide quality education and care while expanding its facilities.

“As organisers, we would like to express our gratitude for the overwhelming support we received. The event not only promoted physical fitness and well-being but also highlighted the importance of coming together to positively impact the lives of others,” Bank Windhoek’s Walvis Bay Branch Relationship Support Officer, Anita Menges, said.

“The event was a resounding success. It brought people together for a common cause and made a difference in the lives of children living with disabilities. It exemplified the spirit of compassion and community, leaving a lasting impact on everyone involved,” she added.

Bonita Atoncich, co-founder of the Yahweh Down Syndrome Foundation, said that events like these are a lifeline for the foundation.

The foundation was established by Antoncich for her son Nehemiah, who has Down Syndrome.

“These events make it possible for us to grow and to assist our children. We thank Bank Windhoek, as this donation will assist us with our current building. It’s great to see the bank partnering with us in raising awareness and donating to our mission.”

The Yahweh Down Syndrome Foundation’s primary focus is a pre-school, where they accommodate eight children.

For the Bank Windhoek Walvis Bay Branch, the goal is to strive to make a difference by organising an annual fun run and walk in support of schools and organisations dedicated to empowering children living with disabilities and those from previously disadvantaged communities.
