For that reason, professional regulation is essential.In Namibia, the profession is regulated under the Architects' and Quantity Surveyors' Act, 1979, through the Namibia Council for Architects and Quantity Surveyors (NCAQS), which maintains the official register of practitioners and regulates professional conduct.The Institute of Namibian Quantity Surveyors (INQS) complements this role by representing the profession, supporting its members and promoting best practice.The distinction is important. The NCAQS is the statutory regulator responsible for professional registration and public protection, while the INQS serves as the profession's representative body.Before appointing a quantity surveyor, clients should verify that the practitioner is registered with the NCAQS, confirm their registration category, review their experience and ensure the scope of services and fee arrangements are clearly agreed.Building Namibia's futureAs Namibia continues investing in housing, commercial developments and public infrastructure, the importance of sound financial management within the construction sector will only grow.Quantity surveyors help ensure projects remain financially sustainable while protecting both public and private investment.Although they may never receive the same public recognition as the buildings they help bring to life, their contribution is evident in every project that is delivered on budget, responsibly managed and built to stand the test of time.In the end, good construction is about more than bricks and mortar.
