Let your soul breathe
The unbeaten path
Far from the beaten track, you get to experience the landscape in its purest form by 'living and surviving' in it for a couple of days.
Taking the unbeaten track, exploring the unexplored and experiencing Namibia’s vast and rugged landscape by foot, by bike or by vehicle.
“Exploring is part of human nature,” says Frank Bombosch of Namibia Active Adventures (NAA), who asks: “Ever wondered what it feels like to truly exist in the moment?”
Because real experiences happen outside the planned, with the essence of travel being exploration and the heart of exploration being the journey, says Frank. And instead of just getting there, we need to let nature guide us.
“NAA takes the unbeaten path, explores the unexplored and pioneers adventure travel in parts of Namibia that the average explorer can’t reach,” he explains the philosophy of NAA that promises that you will discover the limits of your personal frontiers in the heart of the Namibian wilderness. This is thanks to tailor-made adventure excursions without all the modern distractions to absorb the magic that is Namibia’s unique landscapes.
The backbone of NAA dates back to 1998, when Frank’s passion became a profession and he opened the retail outlet Cycletec Adventure Centre. Quickly becoming involved in all aspects of the sport of cycling, triathlon and the adventure tourism sector, support varied from technical support at Save The Rhino Fundraiser Expeditions, as well as organising sports events in general. Quickly, it became the go-to address for anything active in Namibia, with Namibia Active Adventures, which was established in 2018.

"We cater for the adventurer in you," says Frank of the custom itineraries in the Namibian wilderness. "With today’s technology, NAA can accommodate the fit but also those who are moderately fit, with bikes ranging from full suspension mountain bikes to e-bikes. Experiences are tailored to help you explore by foot, by bike or by vehicle," says Frank.
“Bike, hike, run, walk - we take you where you breathe and experience Namibia, an ancient Namibia exposed to the elements.”
According to him, the routes and trails are curated to build experiences.
“In Damaraland, we show you how Namibia was sculpted over millions of years, guiding you through landscapes best experienced on foot or bike. Past and through geological marvels that include craters, mountains, rivers and plains. Mountains, sand and sea, we take you through passes, over mountains, through deserts to the beautiful Atlantic.”
The Historical South tour explores the rich history and landscapes of Namibia that saw the diamond rush and includes one of Namibia's most stunning natural wonders, the Fish River Canyon. And then, of course there is the exploring of the unforgettable Skeleton Coast.
Being this close to experiencing the heartbeat of nature is a profound and soulful experience, but, says Frank, great care is also taken to ensure that nothing is disturbed or damaged in taking the prescribed routes.
“Exploring is part of human nature. We bring these experiences and adventures with conservation to the fore, leaving behind nothing but footprints and tyre tracks.”
Runners and riders are also supported by minimal vehicles, while camping and lodging are done sustainably.
According to Frank, NAA has successfully hosted and pioneered adventures and expeditions for groups as small as five adventurers to groups of 40 people. The expeditions include the In Nam Expedition for Ineos, which sees their graduates take on Damaraland in seven days, each with its own challenges. Graduates complete days of running and cycling with the unique experience of scaling Brandberg.
“A Challenge 4 A Cause participant is taken on a conservation expedition where we explore the untamed environment where rhinos roam free. Participants get to experience the incredible work that goes into protecting the rhino population, as well as the people and rangers who spearhead their conservation.”
All this while exploring natural wonders like fountains in the desert and places humans rarely see. www.namactive.com; [email protected]; Facebook: Namibia Active Adventures
