Meuwesen wins big at sports awards

Archer Jannie Meuwesen was the biggest winner on the night after scooping the sportsman and sports star of the year awards at the MTC Namibia Annual Sports Awards on Saturday. Helalia Johannes also had her fair share of success on the night, claiming the sportswoman of the year award.

Ananias Shikongo won sportsman of the year with a disability, while Lahja Ishitile took sportswoman of the year with a disability.

Other winners on the evening included:

Junior sportswoman of the year: Christine Mboma

Junior sportsman of the year: Daniel Hahn

Junior sportsman of the year with a disability: Fillipus Namweda

Junior sportswoman of the year with a disability: Lahja Ipinge

Team of the year: Special Olympics junior national team

Coach of the year: Letu Hamhola

Referee of the year: Vistoria Shangula

Development programme of the year: Cricket Namibia's kwata programme

National federation of the year: Cricket Namibia

Community inspiration award: Volleyball

Professional athlete in the diaspora award: Peter Shalulile

Sports journalist of the year (print): Sheefeni Nikodemus

Sports journalist of the year (digital): Marco Ndlovu

Sports journalist of the year (broadcasting): Straus Lunyangwe
