Powering the energy sector from a legal perspective

Esther Nangula Kiangi is a 29-year-old, dynamic legal professional from Windhoek. She currently serves as an Associate at SNC Incorporated, a law firm specialising in natural resources, energy, and commercial law. In addition to her role at SNC, she is the Director of Permitting and Licensing Compliance at Vibrant Upstream Services (Pty) Ltd and a Legal Adviser and Board Member at Triumphant College.At SNC Incorporated, Kiangi provides high-level legal advisory services, focusing on cross-border transactions and complex agreements within Namibia’s growing energy sector. Her work involves drafting and negotiating key contracts, such as Joint Operating Agreements, Fuel Supply Agreements, and Petroleum Agreements, which directly support multi-million-dollar energy projects. She is also an integral part of the firm’s Governance, Compliance, and Company Secretarial department, where she guides multinational clients on regulatory frameworks, corporate governance, and market entry strategies.One of her proudest moments includes representing SNC Incorporated as a speaker at the Africa Energies Summit 2025, where she contributed to important conversations about Namibia’s energy future.In her role at Vibrant Upstream Services, Kiangi ensures that clients in the oil, gas, and energy sectors meet all regulatory and licensing requirements. She enjoys bridging legal expertise with operational realities, ensuring compliance is effectively embedded in every stage of the energy value chain. At Triumphant College, Esther provides strategic legal counsel, focusing on education law, institutional compliance, and corporate governance. She takes pride in contributing to an institution that is shaping Namibia’s future workforce and advancing the country’s socio-economic development.Her passion for energy law was fuelled by her studies in the UK, where she obtained her LLB (Hons) from the University of Nottingham and her LLM in Oil, Gas, and Mining Law from Nottingham Trent University. Driven by the desire to make a meaningful impact in Namibia’s resource-rich economy, Kiangi continues to advocate for professional integrity, curiosity, and the importance of mentorship.Her advice to aspiring legal professionals: “Be curious, courageous, and committed.
