Miss and Mr. De Duine back with a bang

After a two-year hiatus, De Duine Secondary School will host its Miss and Mr. De Duine pageant once again. The pageant, a fundraising event for the school, will take place on 13 May at the school hall and will feature 20 contestants. All proceeds will go towards meeting the existing needs and maintenance of the school infrastructure. A task force consisting of three teachers, Lucy Lucas, Elle Nambahu, and Mary Maswahu, is responsible for organising the event and ensuring its success. According to Lukas, this year&#039;s pageant will be different in many ways. "The organising committee would like to make it as trendy as possible and ensure that it contains contagious positive and energetic vibes. We chose to host the event not only because we wanted to raise revenue for the school, but also because we are a well-rounded school that believes in stimulating and strengthening our learners&#039; socio-cultural requirements." The theme "Drip in Style, The Egyptian Way", will recreate Egypt&#039;s rich culture from the 1400s - which fostered new ideas and technologies. "Our queens and kings are given a stage to display and convey their uniqueness and talent to the public." Four judges, three female and one male, will sit on the panel. Miss Nambia 2021, Chelsi Shikongo, will make a special appearance. She will give a speech, inspire the students and hand out the sashes. Artists Azaria, Thomas Bampton, and Waslap Boys - to name a few - are alumni of the school and will entertain the crowd. Youth favourite Dj Spuzza is also on the line-up; with the master of ceremonies being Hinauarue "Pukuu" Ritjatua, a social media and brand influencer. The school secured sponsors, and the winners will receive some of the prizes thanks to these sponsors. "Dischem provided funding for the girls&#039; make-up." A procession through the streets of Naraville will take place on 11 May to alert the community about the upcoming pageant. Winners The respective winners will be picked in the categories Miss Personality, Miss Photogenic, Miss Viewer&#039;s Choice, and first and second princess. The chosen Mr. and Miss will have a year to ensure they meet the goals they set for themselves as the crown bearers. Teacher Maswahu expressed her delight at the opportunity to host an event of this nature. "We are allowing our talented learners to participate in something they enjoy. This offers them hope. They may one day achieve something in the community, as not all of them are academically talented." Over 200 people are expected to attend the contest. Tickets at the door cost N$60 and N$80.
