Why are the kob biting? Isn’t it supposed to be too cold? Nope, just ask Markus Ferreira who got stuck into a very decent kob. He used white mussel as bait and was using his light tackle rod and reel. The fish gave him a good fight as well as a good meal. It weighed a massive 8,68kg. Nice fish indeed. He fished the Mile 14. Markus said he was practicing for the Dunes Mall angling bonanza on 28 May in Walvis Bay. There are great prizes to be won at this years competition and tickets are sold at all angling retailers including Bushwhackers in Swakopmund.I received reports from anglers that caught decent galjoen around the pot. Both Henties Bay and Swakopmunders stayed close to their respective towns and got rewarded with some galjoen. The sharks however are far less active in this cold water which is a blessing for most anglers. There is however a West Coast league angling competition this weekend at Wlotzkasbaken. Here the anglers generally target sharks especially the spotted gulley sharks. The water seems to be flat enough so maybe some cow sharks or even bronze whalers might be caught. These are usually much heavier than the spotted gulley sharks so they give the anglers a lot of weight and thus a lot of points. The ski boats had some rough seas but some ventured out and got rewarded with pan sized kob. Not a whole bunch but enough to keep the overheads paid and some dinner. The cold front inland will probably bring some dreaded berg winds but maybe we will just have nice warm weather along the coastline, I am hoping for the latter. And finally, I made a little shift in my career and joined camping and fishing powerhouse Bushwhackers in Swakopmund. If you have some questions about fishing please feel free to come and chat to me.
