KACI League’s top five in a point deadlock

Khevare Action Capital Investment’s (KACI) Corporate Volleyball Social League’s 12th season opening matches saw close competition, with the top five spots ending in a 24-point deadlock.The league, which features 34 sides, commenced last weekend at Academia Secondary School’s sports field and saw the use of set difference as a tie-breaker become crucial in a competitive field where wins alone were not enough to guarantee top position.Leading the league’s standings charge are defending champions Agribank (unbeaten in 27 games last season) and August 26, as they boast flawless records of eight wins from eight matches, to be placed in first and second positions, respectively.Close on their heels is NamWater, which also remains unbeaten with eight victories, but has lost one set, placing it third on the standings in comparison to the top two.Completing the top five are Bank of Namibia and Team Juxta, who, despite also being undefeated, have each dropped two sets, tying them further down the standings in fourth and fifth places, despite matching the leaders in total points.Speaking to this publication, league organiser Albert Khevare said the league has been all fireworks so far. “To see how we have grown since we started in 2014 with only 16 companies and ministries, to now have 34 teams 12 years later is truly amazing. We will be back again on 10 May for more action,” he said.He further indicated that KACI introduced the Corporate Tug-of-War League for the new season. “It’s one of the first leagues where tug-of-war is played by teams, and we are happy to introduce that,” he said.The tug-of-war has 12 teams taking part, with NamRA currently leading the charge with 15 points. On its heels is another point deadlock, where NamWater Central, the Namibia Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Social Security Commission (SSC) all have 12 points and are tied for second, third and fourth places, respectively.– mariud@nsh.com.na
