Team Series takes shape

Windhoek Pedal Power’s long awaited and much anticipated Team Series is becoming a reality.

Organisers reckon it will inject professionalism into road racing, grow the numbers and have a significant effect on development.

The series is a series within the current Nedbank WPP series and is also sponsored by Nedbank.

“We are only taking 10 teams for the second half of 2017 when the series start. Depending on what we learn in our trial period in 2017, we might allow for more teams in 2018,” says club chairman Leander Borg.

The 2017 team series will consist of the three WPP events for the second half of the year plus one team time trial, which will be solely for the team riders. So choose your team carefully!

The 2018 series will be the six WPP events plus two team time trials – maybe one hilly course and one flat course.

Teams need to be registered (paid up) and all riders need to be paid up WPP members!

Rules:

1. Maximum five riders per team

2. Maximum two elite riders per team. No under 16 not allowed.

3. For 2017 (only three races second half of season) the registration fee is N$2 500.

4. For 2018, N$5 000 registration fee per team for the six races plus two team time trials.

5. Teams have to have matching cycling kit. The minimum requirement is to have matching tops.

6. All teams are considered equal even if the team is a mixed team of males and females.

The scoring system will be based on points. The number of points available will depend on how many teams we have. More detail to follow.

Cut-off for 2017 registration will be Thursday 15 June at 12:00.

Registration fees and sponsorship from Nedbank will go 100% towards prize money. Details to follow once it is known how many teams have registered. The prize money is significant: N$50 000 for 2017 and N$100 000 for 2018!
