Me. Angelina Ngeve is ’n bekende gesig op Otjiwarongo, waar sy op die oomblik embe-vrugte op ’n sypaadjie verkoop. Sy is oorspronklik van Angola en het in 1992 saam met haar man na Namibië gekom. Ná sy dood moes sy noodgedwonge goedere op straathoeke begin verkoop om haar agt kinders te onderhou. Gewoonlik verkoop sy van lekkers en koekies tot los sigarette en lugtyd, maar in die embe-seisoen verkoop sy net dié vrug. Sy reis spesiaal na die Noorde waar sy die vrugte versamel om op Otjiwarongo te verkoop. “Die vrug is baie gewild, maar baie mense kan nie na Owamboland gaan om die vrug te oes nie, dus koop hulle graag by my. In hierdie tyd maak ek ’n goeie inkomste,” sê Ngeve. Die vrug kan in klein sakkies van N$5 of per blikbeker gekoop word. Foto Tanja Bause
