Oruua Primary School at Ovitoto recently received a donation worth N$60 000 from the Ohlthaver and List (O&L) group of companies through one of its subsidiaries, O&L Leisure. Although some needs are met, much still needs to be done.

According to a statement released by O&L, the subsidy that the school receives from the government is not sufficient to cover the overhead costs of the school. The shortfall experienced is covered by the community, parents and the donors.

The school has identified the needs of the children as protein, toiletries and sanitary pads for girls. Panel pumps are also needed to ensure sufficient water to the entire school.

Most of the children at the small school come from as far as Okahandja and Windhoek.

According to Elizabeth McLaren, corporate brand champion at O&L, there are insufficient ablution blocks for the 200 learners.

“There is a need to expand and modernise the current ablution facilities as well as build additional facilities,” says McLaren.

Since Oruua Primary School is situated near O&L’s Midgard resort, O&L has initiated a partnership with the school.

According to the managing director of O&L, Norbert Wurm, it is of utmost importance for neighbours to extend a helping hand to one another.

“The land Midgard and Ovitoto will remain here forever and so, especially during tough times, we need to continue looking to the future together. At O&L, when we speak about the future, we speak about something bigger and that is the purpose by which we live, ‘Creating a Future, Enhancing Life’.”

The school principal of Oruua, Berthold Mukuahima, said: “To Ohlthaver and List, your donation is a great answer to the needs of our children and the girl child in particular.”
