Driving impact through investment: !Notago Narib’s role at GIPF

Eliot Ipinge
!Notago Narib, a developmental investment analyst in the alternative investments unit at the Government Institutions Pension Fund (GIPF), brings a unique blend of personal experience and professional expertise to his role.

Armed with a BCom and BCom honours degree in finance from the University of South Africa, his connection to GIPF dates back to his childhood.

"My journey with GIPF started as early as my junior primary school days when I became a beneficiary," he reflects. "My undergraduate studies were financed using the monthly annuity I received as a beneficiary, making me a product of GIPF."

In November 2024, Narib officially joined GIPF as an employee, tasked with safeguarding and growing unlisted infrastructure-related investments.

He describes his day-to-day role as dynamic and engaging: "A significant part of my role involves monitoring and managing all developmental mandates, maintaining stakeholder relationships, liaising with colleagues, analysing capital call notices, validating valuations, and reviewing quarterly and annual reports."

Narib adopts a proactive and solution-driven approach to his work. "I always try and look at my work from a practical point of view. These are my formulae for success," he says.

Sense of duty

Surrounded by what he calls “smart colleagues”, Narib thrives in an environment where collaboration and knowledge sharing are encouraged.

Reflecting on his early days at GIPF, Narib notes: "I can’t think of any challenge I have had in my first 30 days. I have been fortunate enough to be surrounded by intelligent people who are always willing to lend a hand."

He particularly values the organisation’s culture: "One of my favourite aspects of GIPF’s culture is the work-life balance. While there are rare weeks where we may work long hours, it is never due to pressure from management but more of a sense of duty."

Among his memorable achievements is working on a wind farm project in southern Namibia: "It is amazing to see it close to commissioning. This will contribute to economic development and have a social impact."

Looking ahead, Narib remains driven: "My hope and aspiration are to maintain the fire in my belly and continue to safeguard and grow the fund."
