The matric dance we’ll never forget
Class of \'25
On 5 September 2025, we finally lived the moment we had been dreaming of for years – the Coastal High School Matric Dance. Held at the stunning Beach Hotel in Swakopmund, the event kicked off at 17:00 and brought our entire Class of 2025 together for one last unforgettable celebration.
This year’s theme, "Enchanted Forest," transformed the venue into something straight out of a fairytale. Fairy lights, soft greenery and sparkling decorations filled the space – it felt like walking into a magical world. The atmosphere reflected not just the theme but also the spirit of the Class of 2025: imaginative, bold and full of heart.
The entrances were just as magical. From sleek suits to dazzling dresses, everyone looked amazing. Whether arriving in a flashy car or walking in with friends, the energy was electric. Cheers and compliments abounded – this was our moment to shine, and everyone owned it in their own unique way, marking the symbolic transition from high school into the next chapter of life.
Once everyone was settled, the evening began with heartfelt speeches. Our head boy and deputy head girl took to the stage to reflect on our journey, from awkward Grade 8s to the (mostly) mature young adults we are now. Their words blended nostalgia, gratitude and hope for what lies ahead. It really hit home how far we’ve come, both as individuals and as a group.
Dinner was seriously next level. We started with homemade crumbed fishcakes, followed by a choice of beef sirloin or kingklip for mains – both delicious. And for dessert? A fun and fancy deconstructed sundae that had everyone talking and posting on social media.
We were also fortunate to have some special guests with us – Mrs Claasen, a beloved educator who retired last year, and Ms Julia, who recently embarked on new, exciting adventures. Their return for the evening reminded everyone of the lasting bonds formed at Coastal High. It meant a lot seeing familiar faces come back to celebrate our last big night together.
After the formal proceedings, the dance floor officially opened and it did not disappoint. From throwback jams to the latest hits, everyone was up and moving. Some showed off serious moves, others were just vibing, but no one stood still.
More than just a fun night, the dance felt like the end of a chapter. For many of us, it was our last big moment together as high schoolers but also our first step into adulthood before we set off toward new dreams. It was a night of laughter, a few tears and countless memories.
As the music faded and the lights dimmed, it really sank in – this was it. The last dance, the last toast, the last time we’d all be in the same room like that. But what a way to end it.
The Matric Dance of 2025 will stay with us forever – a night of beauty, friendship and the beginning of whatever comes next. As this chapter closes, we celebrate the resilience, growth and unity of our matriculants.
Coastal High is proud of every single one of you. Here’s to new beginnings, and never forgetting the magic of where it all began.
