Ausha – A role model for us all
Shaping future generations
Ausha Abrahams encourages learners not to give up on their dreams and to allow challenges to motivate them to achieve their goals.
Ausha Abrahams, who grew up in Keetmanshoop and can be described as a role model.
Generally, what makes someone a role model is a combination of their achievements, work ethic, and specific behaviours that help them stand out among their peers.
Role models represent excellence in their field and often exhibit desirable traits like integrity, determination, and high levels of self-awareness, as well as strong principles and high standards that guide the way they act and treat others.
Ausha, a former head girl and Miss Suiderlig, ticks all the role-model boxes.
She is a source of inspiration and an example to follow.
Embrace who you are
Recently, she shared the lessons she learnt from her personal experiences, highlighting her positive attitude towards failure and her willingness to embrace her imperfections and vulnerabilities in order to support and inspire others.
This is particularly important because when we see someone as a role model, we risk putting them on a pedestal and, at the same time, setting impossibly high expectations for ourselves. This can clearly have a negative influence on our confidence and performance, and ultimately on our career development.
It is probably wise to keep in mind what American linguist Noam Chomsky has said: "... we shouldn’t set up people as 'models'; but we should focus more on specific 'actions, thoughts, principles' so that we have a more focused and realistic benchmark for ourselves and others."
Dedicated to the community
Ausha took part in the Miss Namibia 2023 beauty contest, where she achieved a top-five spot.
We are extremely proud of her achievement.
During a recent motivational speech at the school, she underlined her commitment to serving the nation and, particularly, her community, regardless of whether she is crowned Miss Namibia or not.
In conclusion, Ausha encouraged our learners to not give up on their dreams because of circumstances, but rather to allow challenges to motivate them to achieve their goals.
We would like to thank Ausha for her dedication to the school and for helping shape the future generation. We wish her all the best in her future endeavours.
