A day of unity and growth: Tutaleni High School’s exchange with De Duine Secondary
On 10 April 2025, the Tutaleni High School Learners’ Representative Council (LRC) embarked on an exciting exchange visit to De Duine Secondary School. The day began with eager anticipation as the Tutaleni LRC boarded the bus, ready to learn, connect and grow through this unique experience.
Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed with a musical performance from De Duine’s LRC – an inspiring start that set the tone for the day. Soon after, students from both schools were paired in different classrooms. Though nerves filled the air at first, conversations quickly flowed as we shared stories and discovered how much we had in common. The warmth and friendliness of De Duine’s learners created a positive atmosphere that encouraged genuine connection.
During the break, the De Duine LRC hosted us for lunch, where lively discussions unfolded about school life, hobbies, and favourite subjects – Maths and Physics topping the list. Later, a leadership talk by one of De Duine’s teachers inspired deep reflection on our roles as student leaders and the influence we hold in shaping our communities.
The afternoon offered a glimpse into De Duine’s classrooms and management styles. It was enlightening to compare our systems, learning not only about differences but also shared challenges and goals. By the end of the day, both groups had gained valuable lessons about collaboration, respect and leadership.
Before heading home, we gathered to reflect on the day and capture photos to preserve the memories. Many of our members shared heartfelt thoughts. Ananias Paulus, our vice-chairperson, said, “I thought I would never socialise with De Duine, but I’m glad I got the chance.”
Chairperson Ester Kahenge added, “It was wonderful to gain exposure to how differently things are done.”
Meriam Iileka, our treasurer, reflected, “It was awesome because we got to recognise the full worth of our school.”
The exchange left us all inspired, grateful and ready to welcome De Duine to Tutaleni High School for the next chapter of this meaningful partnership in unity and growth.
