Bank Windhoek’s emerging bankers programme first cohort graduate

The Capricorn Foundation, in partnership with Bank Windhoek, celebrated its first group of graduates from the Emerging Bankers Programme on Friday, November 21, 2025. The eventmarked the successful completion of 18 months of intensive training, hands-on experience, and job placements for nine young Namibians in various rural Bank Windhoek branches across the country.Launched in 2024 with N$1 million in funding from the Capricorn Foundation, the Bank Windhoek Emerging Bankers Programme, an initiative under Bank Windhoek’s Young Talent Development Programme, was created to build a talent pipeline from Namibia’s rural communities and small towns, where school leavers often struggle to find employment and training opportunities.Speaking at the event, Capricorn Group CEO David Nuyoma, said the Capricorn Group, developing talent is both a strategic priority and a responsibility."We are passionate about connecting people and opportunities to create lasting value for our communities, because we believe that the future of our Group and industry depends on the people we nurture today. The graduates represent the next generation of bankers who will redefine excellence, innovation, and service in Namibia’s financial landscape. We need leaders who can adapt to change, understand people, and uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.”At the event, Anna Haikali, graduate from the Ondangwa branch said, “When I joined the programme, I was curious but unsure of what to expect. I joined the Bank Windhoek OndangwaBranch, and what I discovered was more than just training. It was a community that believed in us and our potential. The Emerging Bankers Programme didn't just show interest in our skills; it invested in our strengths and dreams. It didn't just open doors for us; it gave us the keys to success."David Nangombe, graduate of the Oshakati branch added, “Today is both a happy and sentimental day. We are closing a chapter that has shaped us, and it feels a bit emotional. But the future is calling louder than the past and that is why we choose to stand here with excitement about what is coming next.”Edla Tjikaka, graduate from the Outapi branch said, “This journey has been nothing short of transformative and it provided a platform for me to shine.”Juliana Fillipus, graduate from the Oshifu branch commented on her experience, “I am grateful for the opportunity to reflect on the past 18 months. A period that has challenged me, shaped me and also strengthened my purpose. The programme gifted me with memories and friends I will always carry with me, my fellow Emerging Bankers.”Marlize Horn, Capricorn Foundation executive officer, said, “The Capricorn Foundation is proud of its partnership with Bank Windhoek on the innovative Emerging Bankers Programme. This initiative can change the lives of Namibian youth, spark positive transformation in small towns and rural areas, provide hope and opportunity, and promote inclusive economic growth.” Building on its success, she announced at the graduation ceremony that the Capricorn Foundation is investing an additional N$3.24 million in the next Emerging Bankers cohort for 18 months, increasing the intake to 15 new Emerging Bankers.
