Sowat 19 ton mangaan is Saterdag tydens die ontsporing van 'n trein van Africa Rail sowat 60 km voor Aus gestort. Volgens TransNamib se woordvoerder, Abigail Raubenheimer, het vier waens en die klas 1900 lokomotief ná swaar reën in die gebied ontspoor. Skade aan die lokomotief is volgens haar gering en selfs sonder dit sal TransNamib steeds die roete kan diens. Meer skade is aan die vier waens aangerig. Volgens Raubenheimer word opruimingswerk en die herstel van die spoorlyn belemmer deur die grond wat nog baie nat en modderig is, met swaar masjinerie wat nie nader gebring kan word om die opruimingswerk te vergemaklik nie.
“Sonder verdere reën in die gebied verwag ons om die spoor teen Woensdag reg te hê,” sê sy.
