Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb extended its support to the primary schools in Tsumeb and the surrounding areas by donating antibacterial soap to the value of N$53 200.

The vice president and managing director of Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb, Zebra Kasete, handed over the donation to the schools’ heads of departments on Friday, 22 January 2021 at the company’s information centre.

Practising social distancing, avoiding non-essential travel or visits, wearing a mask, continuously washing your hands, and keeping them clean all the time, are critical measures to ensure we do not contract or spread the Covid-19 virus, said Kasete.

He emphasised that Covid-19 has brought about vast professional and business opportunities in the country that will contribute to economic development, and encouraged teachers who are in the science field to collaborate and come up with innovative ways to produce soap.

Rochelle Nanunes, a teacher from Ludwigshafen Primary School, thanked the company for the generous donation and for always thinking about the children and teachers in the community.

“We will surely put the soap to good use and start off the year safely,” she said.

Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb, is located in Tsumeb, approximately 430 km north of Windhoek. The smelter was constructed in 1963 and is one of only a few in the world that can treat complex copper concentrates.

The smelter produces 98.5% pure copper blister and with its ability to treat complex copper concentrates it is transitioning from a captive smelter, receiving mainly Dundee concentrates, into a toll treatment facility with brown-fields expansion potential.

Dundee is one of the largest employers in the Oshikoto region with a workforce of approximately 800 employees.
