TAC for monk set at 10 000 metric tonnes

The total allowable catch (TAC) for monkfish will remain at 10 000 metric tonnes for the 2016/17 fishing season.
Minister of ­Information and ­Communication Technology, Tjekero Tweya announced this on Wednesday during a media briefing on the outcome of the recent Cabinet meeting.
The decision comes into effect on 1 May 2016 and is valid until 30 April 2017.
Tweya said the decision not to increase the TAC is due to the fact that ­although there is enough monkfish stock, the fish species appear to be small and the TAC of 10 000 metric tonnes will allow these species to grow.
Cabinet also ­approved the 2016 hunting season – from 1 May to 31 August 2016 for registered conservancies and from 1 June and 31 July for farms not less than 1 000 hectares in size with an ­adequate fence.
The decision also applies to huntable game birds, which may be hunted on commercial farms and ­registered conservancies with a game quota by virtue of a written authority granted in ­accordance with the Nature Conservation Ordinance of 1975. - Nampa
