Skole-angs

Ronelle Rademeyer

Congress and president were elected to work, not sit

President Donald Trump insists on funding of $5.7 billion to build a barrier wall along the U.S.-Mexico border to stymie illegal immigration. While that sounds like lots of money to those of us who work for a living and depend on a paycheck once or twice a month, in federal spending terms $5.7 billion is 0.0998 percent of the total federal budget.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi refuses to give a nickel, along with her compatriot in do-nothingness, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

This impasse between Congressional Democrats and the Republican president is not about immigration. It's about power. The president is sticking to his 2016 campaign promise to build a wall.

Credit him for that — a politician following through on a campaign promise.
