Adolf Kaure - Die Namibiese regbank, in samewerking met die Verenigde Nasies (VN) se Kantoor vir Dwelms en Misdaad (UNODC) het die Wêreldwye Regsintegriteitsnetwerk se voorbereidende vergadering vir Engels- en Portugeessprekende Afrikalande Maandag op Swakopmund aangebied.

Hoofregters van Zimbabwe, Mosambiek, Nigerië, Seychelle, Kenia, Zambië, Swaziland, Uganda, Tanzanië, Lesotho, Malawi, Ghana, Kuba en Namibië het die twee dae lange vergadering bygewoon.

Die doelwit van die vergadering was om deelnemers van 'n forum te voorsien waarop hulle hul ervarings kan deel en strategieë kan bedink om regsintegriteit te versterk en korrupsie in regstelsels te voorkom.

Hoofregter Peter Shivute, van Namibië, het gesê alle regsamptenare moet teen korrupsie waak.

“Sonder integriteit sal ons regstelsels disintegreer en leë doppe word wat nie hul onskendbare grondwetlike mandaat kan uitvoer nie,” het hy gesê.

"Om te verseker integriteit word die grondslag van al ons werk en interaksie as regsamptenare, moet ons die waardes van eerlikheid, regverdigheid en geregtigheid voortdurend toepas op alles wat ons doen."

Artikel 11 van die VN-konvensie teen Korrupsie (UNCAC) beklemtoon die belangrike rol van die regbank in die stryd teen korrupsie en erken dat om dié rol effektief te kan speel, die regbank self korrupsievry moet wees en sy lede met integriteit moet optree.

Die Wêreldwye Regsintegriteitsnetwerk sal op 9 en 10 April in Vienna, Oostenryk, bekend gestel word.
