Receiver extends tax breather
Taxpayers who are in arrears at the Receiver of Revenue now have until 3 April to get their house in order.
The previous deadline of the Ministry of Finance’s Tax Arrear Recovery Incentive Programme was 11 March.
In a statement released by the ministry this morning, permanent secretary Ericah Shafudah said all penalties levied on payments and submission of tax returns will be waived. In addition, 70% of the interest balance on all tax accounts will be written off for taxpayers who pay the capital tax amount in full, and 30% of the interest balance.
There will be no write-off of any capital amount.
“Taxpayers who choose not to partake in this incentive programme shall become liable for the full payment of taxes and interest owing to the Receiver of Revenue,” Shafudah said.
