Ohorongo Otavi Community Trust donates equipment to MoHSS

The Ohorongo Otavi Community Trust has donated medical equipment valued at N$1.2 million to the Ministry of Health and Social Services.
The equipment will be used at the Katutura State Hospital to assist people living with disabilities.
The trust was established in 2008 by Ohorongo Cement and focuses on education, infrastructure and health with the purpose of contributing towards the wellbeing of the community of Otavi.
Speaking at the handover, Ohorongo Cement Managing Director Hans-Wilhelm Schutte said the trust was expanded from focusing only on Otavi to improving the lives of many other communities around the country.
“The aim is to meet the government half-way by assisting with what is needed by the ministry to ensure excellent medical care in public health facilities,” said Schutte.
The donated equipment includes wheelchairs, electronic scales, walking frames, bath lifts and commode chairs.
Receiving the equipment, acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Bertha Katjivena said the donation will improve the lives of many disabled Namibians.
According to the Namibia 2011 Census Disability Report, the number of persons living with disabilities in Namibia increased from 42 932 in 1991 to 98 413 in 2011.
The report also showed that the Khomas Region has the highest influx of persons with disabilities standing at 45 per cent, followed by the Erongo Region. - Nampa
