New talent chosen for Maltas Club Namibia
Maltas (Management Leadership Talent Search) Club Namibia, a non-profit organisation which strives to promote academic excellence, leadership and entrepreneurship, selected a new team in Windhoek last week.
Close to 70 students from all universities in Namibia entered for this year's auditions. After a very stringent and rigorous elimination process which tested leadership, integrity, character and mental strength, four leaders made the new team.
Iipinge Magongo, senior personal assistant to Swapo SG, delivered the keynote address on behalf of the Maltas patron, Minister Nangolo Mbumba. Mbumba praised the club for a job well done and said they should constantly strive to win, no matter the challenges.
The deputy Brazilian ambassador, Dr Andre Costa, also graced the event. Maltas founder, Dr Wilfred Isak April, welcomed the guests and encouraged them to use their personality to serve their soul.
Radio and TV personality, Laurika Williams, hosted this year's two-hour ceremony. Loren-Ashlyn de Koe, 2016 Maltas project manager, and third year biochemistry student at Unam, won this year's Maltas Dinapama Distinguished Leadership Award.
Her prize package included a new Galaxy Tab, sponsored by Digital Photo Centre, and a crystal engraved trophy. Mbumba and the minister of agriculture, water and forestry John Mutorwa, also received awards of appreciation for their service to Maltas at this year's ceremony.
Young and inquisitive Elsie Ikaumbi, an Accounting freshman, won this year's portfolio for community development manager. Secretary general for 2017 was the vibrant and dynamic environmental science student, Hilma Tomas. Eriot Jayden Amakali, a third-year Education student, got the shock of his life and will serve as vice-president, while Helena Shigwedha, a second-year student in Business Administration, was elected as president for 2017.
All incoming members received a weekend away to Swakopmund, compliments of Digital Photo Centre. It will be a very busy year of balancing studies, work and numerous developmental projects across Namibia for the new team. In addition they will have two international trips - one to Stellenbosch University (a leadership training programme which will enable members to receive a NQF level 4 qualification), and a working holiday scheduled for Monaco in Europe in December 2017.
Maltas Club Namibia would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the following generous sponsors for making this event a success: First National Bank of Namibia, Dinapama Manufacturing and Supplies, Digital Photo Centre, Otb Sport, White Feather Creations, Shoprite Checkers, Joyce Printing, Wimpy Wernhill Park, Celebrations Décor and Laurika Williams.
