N$3m se opknappings vir Shark Island

Kristien Kruger – Namibia Wildlife Resorts sal op 1 November die opgeknapte Shark Island-kampterrein op Lüderitz heropen. Die koste van die opknappings het volgens die NWR se woordvoerder, mnr. Mufaro Nesongano, sowat N$3 miljoen beloop.

Al die ablusieblokke, die veldkombuis en die vuurtoring is glo opgeknap.

Volgens ’n mediaverklaring was die opknappings vir 2020 beplan, maar moes dit vanweë die ontwrigting van die Covid-19-pandemie uitgestel word. Die werk het in April vanjaar begin en sal op 8 Oktober voltooi word.

“Shark Island het historiese betekenis en was reeds voor onafhanklikheid opgerig. NWR was daarom ekstra versigtig met die werk wat daaraan gedoen moes word.

“Dit was noodsaaklik dat alle werk wat gedoen word, die toets van tyd kan deurstaan en van hoë gehalte is,” het mnr. Sunday Nelenge, die senior bedryfsbestuurder van NWR, gesê.

Die kampterrein het ’n uitsig oor die see, dorp en hawe en robbe en pelikane kan gedurig op die klipperige terrein aamskou word.

“Vir hierdie spesifieke projek het ons met Telios Namibia Consulting Engineers, Jaco Wasserfall Architects Incorporated, Britz Quantity Surveyors en Geckoh Fifty-Eight Investments (Pty) Ltd saamgewerk wat almal Namibiese maatskappye is om te verseker dat hierdie historiese terrein die nodige aandag kry.

“Dit was in ’n vervalle toestand voor die opknappings,” het die uitvoerende direkteur van NWR, dr. Matthias Ngwangwama, gesê.
