Ishitile jumps personal best in Dubai

11 November 2019 | Sport
Namibian T11 para-athlete Lahja Ishitile jumped her personal best of 4.44 metres in the long-jump event on Saturday at the 2019 International Paralympic Committee World Para Athletics Championships.

The prestigious sporting event is under way at the Dubai Club for People of Determination in the United Arab Emirates. Ishitile, who already competed in the T11 400 m sprint on Thursday, this time around turned up the heat in her second event at the competition; the long jump for T11 women.

The Namibian athlete had jumped 4.00 m ahead of the championships and out of the six jumps she did on the day, only three were registered as the others did not count. From the three that counted, on her fourth attempt, she registered a season best jump of 4.44 m earning her eighth position out of the 10 athletes who contested in the event. Guohua Zhou from the People's Republic of China won the gold medal with a jump of 4.92 m which was her season best, while Yuliia Pavlenko of Ukraine came second with a personal best jump of 4.87 m. Meritxell Playa Feus of Spain took home the bronze medal with a jump of 4.74 m which also was her seasonal best. Ishitile's next events at the championships will be the 100 m heats on Monday and the 200 m heats on Tuesday. - NAMPA
