Verskeie ondersteuningsgroepe vir hokaairoepers het nou ‘n GoFundMe-veldtog vir mnr. Jóhannes Stefánsson begin sodat hy, onder meer, internasionaal vir mediese hulp kan soek nadat hy glo vergiftig is.

Volgens ‘n verklaring wat pas deur die European Center for Whistleblower Rights uitgereik is, was daar talle pogings om wraak op Stefánsson te neem sedert hy die sluier oor die Fishrot-skandaal gelig het. Buiten vir verskeie aanslae op sy lewe, het hy ook sy werk verloor.

Dienooreenkomstig het organisasies soos Whistleblowing International, ANA LOGO, die Amerikaans-gebasseerde Whistleblower Network News en National Whistleblower Center vandag ‘n GoFundMe-veldtog begin om hom te ondersteun. Hulle sal voorts deur ‘n internasionale koalisie Stefánsson in sy stryd na geregtigheid asook finansieel bystaan.

“Hy kon nie behoorlike behandeling vir vergiftiging in Ysland kry nie en is nie finansieel in staat om internasionaal behandeling te soek nie. Hokaairoepers soos Stefánsson is integraal om korrupsie wêreldwyd hok te slaan en benodig hulp om dit te kan doen,” lui die verklaring.

Stefánsson, die voormalige direkteur van operasionele bedrywighede in Namibië vir die Yslandse vismaatskappy Samherjie, sal na verwagting in April na Namibië terugkeur om teen die Fishrot-beskuldigdes te getuig.
