Exciting world of make-up
At the Make-up Emporium, students are trained to become professional make-up artists that work in the television/film/ fashion and photography industries. And now you can be part of the colourful world of make-up...
At the Emporium everything concerning make-up is covered: Starting with the skin and how it functions; the colour wheel (a make-up artist needs to understand how colour works); the cleansing routine; eyebrow shaping and eyelash & eyebrow tinting; basic manicures and pedicures; as well as television, photographic, ramp and avant-garde make-up.
The Make-up Emporium teaches period make-up which covers make-up from the 1920’s and 1950’s, after which students move on to theatre make-up, which consists of witch, clown and geisha makeup to name but a few.
The last module is special effects, which is where movie make-up is learnt: bullet wounds, cuts, burns, cut off fingers, cut off legs and much more.
During this intense but fun 6-month course, students compile their own portfolio and put it together in book form which is a necessity after the course since they will need examples of their work to show potential clients.
They also put together a thesis, which consists of the notes they have taken during the course. The students will go along on photo shoots, music video shoots and fashion shows which introduces them to the industry and helps them build up contact.
There is a full time course available for the girls/guys who have done completed Grade 12. There is also a part-time class for ladies who are working but would still like to learn the wonderful, creative art of make-up.
