Erongo RED donates to Da Palm SSS
OTJIMBINGWE - Erongo Regional Electricity Distributor (Erongo RED) this week donated 260 chairs and desks valued at N$270 000 to Da Palm Senior Secondary School (SSS) in Otjimbingwe, where it operates and has a social responsibility.
Handing over the donation, Erongo RED Chief Executive Officer Fessor Mbango said the kind act was motivated by the school’s visible efforts in and dedication to the Namibian education system.
“This donation should not merely be seen as a gesture of assistance and social responsibility on the part of Erongo RED, but as a much needed support to Da Palm SSS and by extension the community of Otjimbingwe at large” Mbango said.
He noted that since the establishment of Erongo RED’s social responsibility committee in 2013, various schools and communities have benefitted.
These he said include the donation of mattresses valued at N$43 000 to the Tubusis Primary School (PS)’s hostel.
In Usakos, Erongo RED donated three industrial sewing machines worth N$20 000 to a women’s project and Erongosig PS hostel received 40 mattresses and a TV.
He said Otjohorongo PS received building materials to the value of N$78 000, while N$58 000 worth of paint was donated to UB Dax PS.
Mbango said he believed that providing learners sufficient learning equipment and an environment conducive to learning will not only make them proud of their school but also motivate them to work hard for good grades.
Erenst Weather, a parent of a learner at Da Palm SSS, also donated a printer worth N$48 000 through the Weather Family Trust during Erongo RED’s handover.
Weather called on other businesses to also invest in Namibia’s education system and meet Government halfway.
“Government is doing a lot for our children’s education so let’s partner with them,” Weather said, adding the school is in need of a bus and he will soon embark on raising the required funds.
