Do it with passion or not at all

Ngeendina Angula, born and raised in Greenwell, Windhoek, moved to Cape Town, South Africa, when she was 13 years old and lived there for six years. Angula returned to Namibia at the end of last year. Angula studied at an all-girls school, Sans Souci Girls’ High School, and in her final year she served as the vice-chairperson of the RCL body, the treasurer, and she was the student representative on the School Governing Body as well as the School Management Team.

Currently, Angula is a first-year LLB student at Unam. Outside school, she is the membership director for Junior Chambers International (JCI) Namibia, and an intern for prosecutor Phellem at the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court.

“I am passionate about criminal justice as well as youth empowerment,” said Angula.

“As the membership director for JCI Namibia: I have to make sure we have new members joining the organisation on a regular basis to continue creating community champions and helping young adults with enterprise,” says Angula.

“In my office, I would like to make sure that no student is disadvantaged academically and the issues that we can fix, we will fix. As an aspiring prosecutor and magistrate, my job entails me accompanying lawyers to court proceedings to take down any necessary notes and dates of the next appearances.”

Being the membership director for JCI Namibia and an intern is not as easy as one would think, she says.

“I have to call for dockets to come in and sometimes the investigating officers do not bring them on time, which leads to so much anxiousness, especially if the matter is being heard in the morning. I feel like this entire year has been an accomplishment on its own. I’ve entered into offices I never thought I would and I’m content with all I have,” says Angula.

Careers asked Angula what advice she would give to other young people who aspire to be in her position one day. “You should be very passionate about it because the work is a lot. Always be on top of your work, do your work well in advance and have a group of people who are just as serious as you are about your work. Make sure you enter as many societies as you can handle, because with this you are exposed to different kinds of people, you are able to do all kinds of work and you generally just grow as a person. Be out there, but in the right way, do not get involved in situations which would hinder your growth and success in the future. Talk to people in the industry and always be open to constructive criticism because they have been where you are today,” she replied.
