Day of Kindness: A day in someone else’s shoes
In keeping with the motto ‘Days at School’, the DHPS celebrated this year’s Day of Kindness under the theme ‘Walking a Day in Someone Else’s Shoes – Showing Empathy’.
While the focus previously was on kindness, which includes acts of goodwill and positive words, adding empathy adds another dimension relating to another perspective: putting yourself in someone else’s shoes and seeing the world from their perspective. This involves earnest listening and relating – two skills that are in great demand around the world.
Teachers planned activities revolving around social awareness: understanding that others have feelings and knowing that your actions affect others.
A great example of this is asking students to define empathy and identify it within a specific work of literature. All things considered, empathy has become extremely important when viewed in the light of the times we find ourselves in.
