Civil Service Careers

A civil servant is a person employed in the public sector employed for a government department. The extent of civil servants of a state as part of the "civil service" varies from country to country.

An employee of the civil service is basically employed by the government to impartially implement their policies and laws. As a result, civil service employees often work in areas that highly affect people’s everyday life.

They are the people behind implementing government and developmental policies, keeping law and order, and act as a link between the masses and the government. They hold power and are immensely respected for the job they do.

Also, it is possible to start in government service without specific skills or knowledge. For example, if you are just a high school graduate you can become an administrative clerk, or any other unskilled jobs.

Although different posts require grades and qualifications, for example, to join the diplomatic service as an economist or foreign relations officer you need post-graduate qualifications.

Jobs are as varied in government as they are in the private sector. Every occupation imaginable can be performed in a civil service industry, and many jobs are predominantly public by nature. For example, majority of teachers, librarians, and public safety professionals work in the public sector.
