Brittanje eis antwoorde van Rusland oor gifstof

Die senuweegif wat in 'n aanval teen 'n voormalige Russiese spioen in Brittanje gebruik is, het sy oorsprong in die ou Sowjetunie.

Pres. Wladimir Poetin van Rusland moes teen middernag Dinsdag aan Brittanje verduidelik het hoe 'n senuweegif wat deur die Sowjetunie ontwikkel is, gebruik is om 'n ­voormalige Russiese dubbelagent aan te val wat geheime aan die Britse intelligensie­diens verklap het.

Sergei Skripal (66) en sy dogter Yulia (33), is sedert 4 Maart in 'n kritieke toestand in 'n hospitaal in Brittanje. Hulle is bewusteloos op 'n parkbank buite 'n inkopiesentrum in die suidelike Engelse stad Salisbury aangetref.

Premier Theresa May sê dit was “hoogs waarskynlik” dat Moskou die skuld vir die aanval moet kry nadat Britse ondersoekbeamptes die gif as deel van die Novichok-groep se senuweegif geïdentifiseer het wat in die 1970's en 1980's deur die Sowjet-weermag ontwikkel is.

May het Poetin tot middernag Dinsdag gegee om te verduidelik of “veel meer omvattende” maatreëls teen die Russiese ekonomie in die gesig te staar.

Die aanval was “óf 'n regstreekse daad deur die Russiese staat teen ons land óf die Russiese regering het beheer oor hierdie katastrofiese senuweegif verloor en toegelaat dat dit in die hande van ander beland”, het May gesê.
