Gisteraand skuins voor 18:00 het 'n gejuig in Harare losgebars ná die Speaker van die Zimbabwiese parlement Robert Mugabe se bedanking as president van die land aangekondig het.

Dit het gevolg nadat die mosie om Mugabe in 'n staat van beskuldiging te stel, omstreek 17:30 deur die regerende Zanu-PF-party in die parlement voorgestel en deur die opposisie MDC gesekondeer is.

Mugabe (93), wat die land vir bykans vier dekades regeer het, het die afgelope week verbete aan sy posisie geklou nadat die weermag beheer oorgeneem en hom onder huisarres geplaas het.

Emmerson Mnangagwa, die voormalige visepresident wat deur Mugabe afgedank is, sal na verwagting as Zimbabwe se nuwe leier oorneem. - Nampa/Reuters en Netwerk24
