FNB Namibia supports a happy, healthy nation
Saturday, 4 February, was World Cancer Day.
Organisations and individuals around the world united to raise awareness about cancer and to commemorate work done globally.
Every year more than 8 million people die from cancer worldwide.
This year the theme of World Cancer Day is “We can. I can”.
This theme explores how everyone can play a role in reducing the global burden of cancer.
Elzita Beukes, communications manager at FNB Holdings, says: “At FNB Namibia we also pledge that 'we can' and will continue to support the good work done by the Cancer Association of Namibia.”
FNB Namibia has supported the Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN) with numerous projects over the years, including the Coronation Day project, the Bandana Day project, the launch of a kids' booklet on cancer, the Ladies Day Namibia Tennis Association Tournament, and the annual Hats and Roses Breakfast.
Beukes said: “We've donated furniture to CAN, and have pledged an additional N$100 000 over three years towards House Acacia from 2015 to 2017. At the end of last year, we also ran a campaign where we invited Namibians to nominate their favourite charity on the FNB Happiness Store. For obvious reasons, CAN is on our list, and we encourage Namibians to play their part through the Happiness Store, to keep our nation happy and healthy.”
Beukes added the development and protection of society was one of the main drivers of the FNB Namibia Holdings Foundation Trust.
“Community health is one area we feel passionate about, and through our people and partnerships such as with CAN, we aim to make our fellow Namibians' lives better. We believe in assisting wherever possible to achieve global goals for sustainable development - including good health and well-being for social progression.”
The bank's support doesn't only stretch to external associations.
“FNB Namibia’s Human Resource department offers annual screenings for staff members, and we work closely with CAN to do this,” Beukes said.
Mr. Rolf Hansen, CEO of the Cancer Association of Namibia, expressed his gratitude towards FNB Namibia for their ongoing support, and the Happiness Store in particular as a new concept that can encourage the nation to assist in tackling the dreaded disease.
“It was indeed wonderful news that FNB Namibia listed us on the Happiness Store charity drive. I hope that together we can push the Happiness Store concept and change more lives!” Hansen said.
Beukes explained how the public can donate to CAN using the Happiness Store: “Visit the website at www.fnbhappinessstore.com.na, make a donation of any amount using any debit or credit card, and share some happiness to those who need it the most. We will then email you a picture of what happiness looks like when your gift of happiness is delivered. It’s that simple.”
