Records broken at swimming gala

THE Namibian national swimming championship started on Thursday and was completed on Sunday. Once again it was a very successful gala with 178 swimmers participating in 1 023 events.

Three individual and five relay records were broken and 515 personal best times were recorded. Dolphins Swimming Club was the overall winner for this championship with 2 397.5 points. Second was Namib Swimming Academy with 1 801 points, followed by Swakopmund Swimming Team with 477 points, Oranjemund with 196.5 points and Marlins with 22 points.

The best individual performance of the championships was Christine Briedenhann (Namib Swimming Academy) racking up 628 FINA Points in the 100m freestyle. She was also awarded the Junior Victrix Ludorum prize.

The Junior Victor Ludorum was Jean- Paul Burger (Dolphins), Senior Victrix Ludorum was Christine Minders (Dolphins) and Senior Victor Ludorum was JP Engelbrecht (Namib Swimming Academy).
Dolphins Swimming Club broke four records, all in the following relays:
 
• NASU record (not Namibian record, as one of the swimmers was a non Namibian) Men 11/12 200 freestyle relay in a time of 2:08.07. The team consisted of Alexander Skinner (11), Sascha Rapp (11), Emile Majewski (12) and Jacques Adelaar (12).

• NASU record (not Namibian record) Men 13/14 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:58.31. The team consisted of Kevin Pienaar (13), Hugo Wasserfall (14), Jean-Paul Burger (13) and Sean Peens (13).

• Namibian record Women Open 200 medley relay in a time of 2:08.27. The team consisted of Christine Minders (17), Daniela Lindemeier (17), Corinna Wahl (17) and Kari van der Vaart (15).
Namib Swimming Academy swimmers broke three individual and two relay records:
 
• NASU record Yara Hierath (second place) for the women 8&U 50m Freestyle in a time of 37.84 and for the women 8&U 200 IM in a time of 3:33.34

• Namibian record Zune Weber for the women 8&U 50 Freestyle in a time of 36.82

• Namibian record Christine Briedenhann for the female 13 in the women Open 50 Fly in a time of 30.57

• NASU record (not Namibian record) Women 13/14 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:59.57. The team consisted of Christine Briedenhann 13, Marietta Kuivanen 14, Anna Meaden Torbitt 14, Micaela Cloete 13.

• NASU record (not Namibian record) Women 13/14 200 medley relay in a time of 2:13.72. The team consisted of the following swimmers: Anna Meaden Torbitt 14, Frederike Schalken 14, Christine Briedenhann 13, Micaela Cloete 13.
The following swimmers were trophy winners as they achieved the best qualifying times in these events:
 
• Christine Briedenhann (NSA) for the 50m and 100m freestyle, 50m and 100m backstroke, 50m and 100m butterfly and the 200m Individual.

• Christine Minders (Dolphins) for the 200m, 400m and 800m freestyle.

• Daniela Lindemeier (Dolphins) for the 100m and 200m breaststroke.

• JP Engelbrecht (NSA) for the 50m and 100m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly.

• Ajad van Wyk (NSA) for the 50m and 100m breaststroke.
